Traction and compression on polymer materials

Contexte et objectifs
This major manufacturer of speciality materials develops, produces and sells high added-value products and materials in all industrial sectors. It wanted to add to its test bench facilities to provide the calculation department with accurate, reliable and consistent data and improve behavioural laws.
Traction and compression on polymer materials
Requirement
  • In order to validate numerical simulation models, materials laboratory has expressed the need to add precise instruments to its test benches, so as to gain a better understanding of materials and improve their performance.
  • Determination of poisson's ratio, Young's modulus and non-contact volumetric deformation on polymer materials.
  • Taking into account the effect of speed, temperature and in situ deformation.
  • Understand mechanisms of deformation, following in the three directions x, y and z (measurement in the sample edge).
Constraints
  • Measurement base L0 ≥ 10 mm for tensile and compression test
  • Configuration on an existing Instron hydraulic traction machine.
  • Synchronisation of all machine and extensometer data (force, elongation, displacement/deformation)
  • Machine control in terms of deformation and force
  • Measurement range: from 10 mm to 200 mm.
  • Accuracy: class 0.5 (in accordance with ISO 9513).
  • Compatible with sample breakage
  • Acquisition frequency > 50 measurements/s
Solution
